I originally created this blog back in 2007 when Yuwie.com was brand-new and full of potential. Now it appears that Yuwie is about to be shut down. The signs are there for anyone who takes notice...
As of this writing, the yuwie.com domain name is set to expire on 5/21/11. (According to GoDaddy.com, which is where it was registered.)
Recently, it has only seemed to be online during certain hours per day - usually earlier in the day, and offline completely at night.
Yuwie's creator, Korry Rogers (AKA "Y-Guy"), hasn't even logged in to it since 1/12/11. This was when he posted a reassuring blog stating that despite rumors, there were no immediate plans to shut down Yuwie any time soon. I find it interesting that his personal website, korryrogers.com, and his LinkedIn profile don't even include any references to Yuwie as one of his career achievements.
I'll be sorry to see it go for my own sentimental reasons. It was loads of fun when it was new...downright addictive, in fact! Not to mention the fact that I actually met the love of my life and now fiance right there on Yuwie! (Yup, this very blog is where she saw me for the first time and decided to join using my links.) :) But that was before all those nasty pop-up/pop-under/peel down, etc. ads that started to give Yuwie members fits after the first year or so. By 2010 it became so unbearable that it was actually a chore to try to send all my Yuwie friends their daily comments that we were all used to exchanging. So even I eventually decided it was time to quit using it altogether because it was so frustrating.
To this day, I still communicate with many of those former Yuwie friends on Facebook, which has become the social network of all social networks these days. Of course there's no money to be made just by using Facebook, so it's not really quite the same. Doesn't matter how many page views you get on there - it doesn't earn you a cent! LOL
If you'd still like to try your hand at earning some money online with a site similar to what Yuwie had to offer, I can recommend a couple of good ones...
The first one I recommend is called Klikot.com. It's very similar to Yuwie, in that they pay you in relation to the views that you get on blogs, pics and videos you've posted, and of course on members that you've signed up by using your own link. (Like Yuwie referrals.) Klikot is fun too, but it doesn't seem to have the traffic that Yuwie used to have, but it's still growing and might turn out to be pretty successful eventually. You can check out my own Klikot page right here. It's not much, but it's there earning me whatever it turns out to be. lol
There's another new site that looks pretty exciting, although it's not a social networking site like Yuwie or Klikot. It's called Varolo.com, and you make money just for viewing TV commercial type ads, and for introducing the site to other people who join your Varolo "Village". You're free to watch as many or as few as you want, but they also enter you into their weekly cash jackpot giveaways with each ad that you view. Varolo just officially launched in April, 2011, and it's growing by leaps and bounds...their registered user total has doubled from April to May this year! They even have their own Varolo information blog to give everyone a way to stay informed on the developments as they happen, including the weekly jackpot winner, etc. I think it's a very cool idea that just might have a chance to make a lot of people some money for doing hardly anything at all! In fact, I even created a Facebook page to promote it with called "Making-Money-For-Doing-Hardly-Anything"!
The great thing about Varolo is that it's totally free to join and take part in...but it can also boast the credibility of having drawn the attention of big-time advertisers. You'll see what I mean when if you take a look at it. Companies like Coca-Cola and Nationwide Insurance, just to name a couple, as well as actual new movie trailers are seen on Varolo. It's often like watching the funny new commercials that you see being debuted during the Super Bowl...a lot of them are hilarious! Yet it gives you the chance to make some substantial money without ever paying them anything...either by watching the ads or by referrals to advertisers who pay to have their ads shown.
So there are at least 3 ways you can make money with Varolo. It's really pretty cool, and I hope you check it out and decide to join my own little Varolo "Village"!
If you do join either Klikot or Varolo, please do me a favor and let me know you found out about them by reading my Yuwie Reviews blog! :) I'll look forward to welcoming you onto my team!
Take care, and thanks for reading!
